The Centre for Molecular Biophysics (CBM) of CNRS, the biggest national research institution in France, is seeking outstanding junior candidates to strengthen or establish new world-class research programs on Nucleic Acids.
About the Centre for Molecular Biophysics (CBM) of CNRS
CBM (~150 scientists and supporting staff) is an interdisciplinary research center with a strong component in nucleic acids. Basic and applied aspects of the field are investigated to unravel fundamental mechanisms of nucleic acid metabolism (DNA repair, RNA remodeling, RNP biogenesis) and to develop leading edge strategies for nucleic acids-based therapeutics (non viral gene therapy, mRNA therapeutics). A strong focus concerns the development of chemical and physical smart approaches for their delivery as nanomedicines. Current teams use a combination of approaches, including biochemistry, structural biology, molecular and cellular biology, and preclinical animal testing.
A broad range of large instrumentation is a significant characteristic of CBM. State of the art equipments in structural biology (600/700 MHz NMR spectrometers, X-ray generator, crystallization screening robot) and for formulations (NanoAssemblr™ Ignite, Nano spray dryer B90 HP, Zeta and nanosizers), high resolution mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy and imaging, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry platform, atomic force microscopy, MRI, photoacoustic imaging, etc., combined with L2 cell culture rooms and small animal facilities, all within the same center makes CBM a unique place to address both fundamental and applied biological questions from an interdisciplinary point of view. Nearby facilities such as synchrotron SOLEIL or the national transgenic animal collection are also easily accessible.
CBM offers excellent working conditions in 6300 m2 of recently constructed or renovated lab and office space. It is located on the CNRS Campus in Orleans, at the heart of the Loire valley, an area offering a superb quality of life. CBM teams benefit from a rich and diverse scientific environment from the CNRS campus, University of Orléans and local hospital and from its proximity (~1h drive) to research centers in Tours and Paris.
Specifications of this recruitment
Recruitment of permanent CNRS staff is a yearly nationwide contest of candidates, with the support of a CNRS laboratory. For the next recruitment campaign (early 2021), CBM seeks applicants who have obtained their PhD after 2011 and who meet criteria for junior “Chargé de Recherche” positions (http://www.dgdr.cnrs.fr/drhchercheurs/concoursch/informer/default-en.htm). Candidates should also manifest clear potential to secure national and international external funding. Several competitive funding schemes are open to outstanding junior scientists and may provide temporary alternatives to permanent CNRS positions.
Successful candidates will be offered to join an existing CBM group or to create a new group, depending on their research proposal and record of accomplishment. The offer will include laboratory and office space, access to onsite core facilities and equipment, and priority applications for PhD fellowships and other sources of local funding.
