Choosing how to measure nanomedicine products is still surprisingly hard, even for experienced teams. Different techniques probe different measurands, sample matrices can change everything, and results are not always comparable across labs and instruments.

In METRINO Academy Session 2, two METRINO experts will share a practical, user oriented approach to help you select fit for purpose analytical methods, based on three years of interlaboratory experience within the METRINO project.

Practical information

Date and time: Thursday 5 February 2026, 15:00 CET (Paris)
Duration: 1h15 (technical talk plus live Q&A)
Format: Live Zoom Events meeting session. Cameras welcome. Microphones muted by default.

Speakers and moderation

Dr Christian Gollwitzer (PTB), Head of Working Group 7.21 “X Ray Radiometry”
Dr Yuri Antonio Diaz Fernandez (University of Pavia), Professor of Microspectroscopy and Bioimaging
Moderated by Alexandre Ceccaldi (ETPN), METRINO WP5 lead

What this session will focus on

You will get practical guidance on:

  • How different analytical techniques provide different types of information
  • Common issues around comparability, traceability and measurement uncertainty
  • Lessons learned from METRINO interlaboratory activities
  • Practical considerations for key use cases, including particle size and number concentration, chemical composition and homogeneity, structural integrity

What you will take home

The speakers are preparing a practical decision support tool (decision table and heat map) to help you match analytical methods to the right measurand and use case across research, industry and regulatory contexts.

Why attend

This session is relevant if you work in nanomedicine R&D, analytical characterisation, metrology, QC, method development, manufacturing, or regulatory science. It is open to both non experts and experts.

About METRINO and the METRINO Academy

METRINO (Grant #22HLT04) is funded by the European Partnership on Metrology, co financed by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and participating states. METRINO develops validated measurement methods, SOPs and reference materials to support robust translation of nanotherapeutics.

The METRINO Academy is a short webinar series designed to translate METRINO outcomes into practical guidance for the wider community, focused on real life analytical and quality related decisions, reproducibility and standardisation readiness.
