Italy is launching a new national initiative to move nanomedicine from promising science to real clinical use: the Italian Nanomedicine Platform. Its first official symposium, “From NANOmedicine to nanoMEDICINE: Converging Innovation for Clinical Adoption” (Rome, 16–18 Feb 2026), is co-organised with ETPN and MetabERN. The effort is led by Prof. Giovanni Tosi (UNIMORE), who also serves as ETPN Secretary and Board member, ensuring strong alignment with European networks and priorities.

A milestone for nanomedicine in Italy

From NANOmedicine to nanoMEDICINE: Converging Innovation for Clinical Adoption is the first official symposium of the Italian Nanomedicine Platform, a newly established national initiative designed to strengthen coordination and translation capacity across Italy.

The symposium is co-organised with:

  • ETPN – European Technology Platform on Nanomedicine
  • MetabERN – European Reference Network for Hereditary Metabolic Disorders

This partnership reflects a shared objective: build a pragmatic bridge between technology developers, clinicians and industry, and ensure that innovation is designed from the start with clinical fit, feasibility and adoption in mind.

Why attend

This is not a standard “talks-only” meeting. The symposium is built to:

  • Officially launch the Italian Nanomedicine Platform and its Working Groups
  • Align clinicians, researchers, institutions and companies around shared priorities
  • Initiate the first Italian Nanomedicine White Paper (publication planned within 60 days after the event)
  • Strengthen dialogue with key stakeholders including AIFA and Farmindustria
  • Test a format that favours dialogue, co-design and real collaboration
  • Use rare diseases and oncology as model areas, while keeping an across-indications perspective

Day 1 — Launch & connections

  • Institutional opening + Platform governance and Working Groups

  • “1-1-1 Wall”: one need + one capability + one concrete ask (to accelerate matchmaking)

Day 2 — Keynotes, reverse pitches & roundtables

  • Clinician Reverse Pitch: what hospitals need to use/develop nanomedicine
  • Industry Reverse Pitch: what makes projects reach patients (clinical fit, differentiation, scalability)
  • Parallel roundtables: participants choose one table per session
  • Each table delivers 3 key priorities feeding the White Paper

Day 3 — Priorities & next steps

  • Roundtable reports + live prioritisation for Top priorities for 2026
  • White Paper plan and timeline
  • Platform next steps, including a Q2 2026 “Rome Review” webinar
